PODCAST 307: The Brood & Mama [Mother's Day Edition]

This week the Horror Duo take a look at a pair of films about motherhood, in time for Mother's Day. Forest discusses David Cronenberg's disturbing The Brood. Cory takes a look at a more recent ghost story, Mama, starring Jessica Chastain.

Cory shares some thoughts on Jurassic World, in typical fashion (three years since it hit theaters). Forest also chats about the grim nature of the most recent Avengers flick and how old people are old, and shouldn't be allowed in public spaces. All this and together Forest & Cory ask a few very important questions; "Do ghosts know they are ghosts?" and "Are Forest & Cory in fact ghosts?".

Apparently David Cronenberg described the filming of Nola getting strangled in “The Brood” as being “cathartic” to him. I guess his divorce was particularly ugly.

During Cory’s review of “Mama”, Forest mentioned the idea of building up to something, only for it to be nothing, and couldn’t remember the word for it. I think the term is “shaggy dog joke”.

Back to making fun of politicians, I think Obama’s race gave him insult-armor, as the sensitive Left would quickly label someone as racist for any criticism/parody of him. And as we’ve seen today, anything construed as “racist” is a quicker career killer than shoplifting or verbally berating a cameraman. That said, some SNL-esque shows in Brazil had skits about Obama, which featured a “mammy” character living in a shack on the White House lawn. I don’t recall if watermelon was involved.

Not as many "Yo mama!" jokes as I was expecting.
